Our Story:
Since the 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti, one of our partners has led teams of graduate students from a major research university to engage with nonprofit and faith based groups, both in the US and Haiti to empower Haitian community leaders, and local residents to develop a sustainable community development model. The students were tasked with working in both earthquake ravaged regions and communities in Haiti that have been historically under-served by local governments and NGO’s. The on-going student initiative is designed to create greater self-sufficiency and governance.
In 2012, the founders of VilllageMED were invited to assemble a medical team to support the university’s Haiti initiative. They tapped into a well spring of support and desire to provide sustained service to communities in crisis, while being encouraged to create a safe, culturally sensitive and effective vehicle for volunteering in developing areas.
In 2013, VillageMED was founded as a humanitarian medical aid nonprofit organization to achieve those ends.
